| There are about 4,000 woman currently earning their living as wicker
workers in Kratie. They use a eco-friendly raw material which literally does grow on
trees. The dryanda tree provides the raw material for goods such as mats and walls
for houses in the rural areas. Since early 2002 the Cambodian Craft Cooperation (CCC) have been
running two centres, approximately 25km south of Kratie in riverside villages; Chheu Tiel
Ploch, a Cham (Muslim) village and Chheu Tiel Ploch Leu a Khmer village to investigate the
possibilities inherent in introducing new product ranges.
